Medium puzzles start with fewer numbers. You still only need singles, but they are harder to spot, and sometimes you have to rule out a whole box first.

This is where notes start to help. Pencil in the candidates for a cell and watch for a number that fits in only one place.
Look for pointing pairs: when a number can only go in one row inside a box, it cannot go anywhere else in that row.
